The Aburo Mi Mentoring Scheme is a tech-enabled mentoring platform. Mentors and mentees will connect virtually at least once a month. Research is showing that girls and women from underrepresented communities are the least tech-savvy. Each mentee has received a donation of an Amazon Fire Pro tablet for their mentoring sessions, as well as to be able to participate in group digital skills training. These donations were made possible by the generosity of our donors from our 2021 Spread the Love campaign via GoFundMe. This platform is still live, and we are accepting donations throughout the year. The tablets with internet connectivity and functionality retail at $80.

What is Aburo Mi?

Aburo Mi means — “my younger sibling”. We believe every young woman deserves access to opportunity, guidance, and the tools to thrive. This mentoring initiative connects young women from underrepresented communities with experienced mentors who care — mentors who are ready to guide, support and champion their growth. To eliminate access barriers, each mentee receives an Amazon Fire Pro tablet (with internet connectivity) to enable monthly 1–1 sessions and take part in group digital-skills learning.

Why It Matters?

Bridging the digital divide

Many young women in underrepresented communities lack access to reliable technology. By providing tablets and connectivity, Aburo Mi ensures that all mentees can participate fully, regardless of background or geography.

Consistent, meaningful mentorship

Regular monthly sessions, with mentors who understand not only the professional — but the personal challenges many mentees face. As evidence shows, effective mentorship helps build confidence, emotional intelligence, and the mindset needed to overcome systemic barriers.

Empowerment through skills

Alongside mentoring, the program offers digital skills training, equipping mentees to navigate the modern world with competence — from education to entrepreneurship, from job applications to self-driven projects.

Community & Belonging

Being part of Aburo Mi means joining a sisterhood. A supportive community that values growth, authenticity, and mutual upliftment.
