In June 2019, the GLOW UP NGO partnered with THE WAAY FOUNDATION to organise an anti-bullying campaign at Kidshaven – an orphanage based in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was the first in our new workshop series focused on mental health and well-being called “Glowing from within” – a series of intimate events aimed at exposing young females living in orphanages and foster homes to identifying and overcoming bullying, depression, anxiety, and other mental/ emotional disorders. We had GLOW UPrepresentatives on-ground, as well as professional clinical psychologists from THEWAAY FOUNDATION, teaching the students via video conferencing. This was our first virtual learning platform, and it was well-received.

Hands Off Initiative

July 2019, the GLOW UP NGO partnered with HANDS OFF INITIATIVE and THE WAAYFOUNDATION to organise a home visit for the second edition of our anti-bullying campaign, which was held at Sought After – an orphanage based in Ajah, Lagos, Nigeria. This was the second in our workshop series “Glowing from within”. HANDS OFF INITIATIVE is committed to ending sexual harassment by teaching young boys and girls about consent and self-defence. This session was targeted at girls who have experienced sexual assault, bullying, depression, anxiety and other mental/emotional disorders.

Access to essential healthcare

Many areas, particularly in lower-income or remote regions lack reliable access to doctors, clinics, or hospitals. Medical outreach initiatives help bridge that gap by bringing care to where people are, avoiding barriers like distance or cost.

Healthcare and education

Outreach often includes screenings, check-ups, vaccinations, hygiene, nutrition and disease-prevention education. These reduce the chances of serious illness, lower disease burden, and improve long-term community health.

Addressing health disparities

Outreach helps reduce the gap between those with easy access to healthcare (e.g. in wealthy or urban areas) and those without. Free or low-cost outreach means more equitable access, especially for marginalized or vulnerable groups.

Fostering community trust

By engaging communities directly and respectfully, outreach builds relationships, trust in healthcare, and social cohesion — empowering communities to take charge of their health rather than rely solely on distant, under-resourced systems.

This is not just a medical project, it is a commitment to walking alongside communities, understanding their needs, and offering support with compassion and respect.
